Back in 2019, I was invited to attend a Badger Honor flight event as a media representative. Not only was I honored to accompany veterans on their whirlwind tour of Washington DC, but I felt compelled to find a fitting way to pay tribute to these men and women that had fought for our country in 3 wars. So I spent the day seeking out individuals to interview them and just gather some of the reactions to the day as well as recollections of their time spent in the service. Some of the stories were remarkable, some sad, some comical, but all of them shared in a common feeling of grief for their fallen friends and a great humility about having this opportunity. Any of these folks would tell you that the ones that didn't make it home and are memorialized in Washington are the REAL heroes.
